About Us
At Parkwood Baptist, you will find regular people. People like yourself who struggle and hurt as they deal with daily life, and yet - they are people who are experiencing real life and joy through a growing relationship with Jesus Christ in their daily lives.

Our desire at Parkwood - is to live with purpose! This means to make Jesus first place in our lives, lead people into a personal relationship with Him, and equip believers to do loving ministry in both the church - and the world!

We know there is a place for you at Parkwood, and we invite you to be our guest. Please look us over on the web - but better yet come visit with us!

What is your role at Parkwood? If you could pick a body part that describes it, what would it be?
Hands, I enjoy serving and doing what ever I can to help out the ministries at Parkwood.

What do you do for fun?
I love to play out doors, but mostly I find myself only having time to play video games.

What's your favorite color? Why?
My favorite color is blue, it is probably my favorite color because I am a boy and boys like blue and the society that boys grow up in is masculine and blue is a masculine color... or maybe cause it looks good on me.

What's your most embarrassing moment?
I once implied that a complete stranger was a loser.  I did this on a cruise ship at a dinner of eight and they all busted me on it.  Not only did I feel bad but the ship was small so I kept running into this guy I insulted.  I could not get away.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
The power of multiplicity- I would recreate parts of myself to do all the jobs that I want to do and then with my real self take a long vacation.

If you had to pick one verse that defines your ministry what would  it be?
Titus Message  We're being shown how to turn our backs on a godless, indulgent life, and how to take on a God-filled, God-honoring life. This new life is starting right now (I feel that this is my mission as a youth pastor to encourage students to turn to God).

What is your role at Parkwood? If you could pick a body part that describes it, what would it be?
Body part: face.  When I think about a parent/child relationship, one of the most obvious tell-tale signs of the familial connection is found in the individuals’ facial features.  In the same way that others can tell Ethan is my son because of our similarities in our faces, I believe that our worship should be reflecting the glory of God so much that when others see us, they immediately see the glory of our Father.  I see my role as one that exists to help others see the importance of fulfilling our calling…our purpose…to be reflections of God’s glory in all that we do.

What do you enjoy the most about being a parent, spouse, child, etc.?
The best part of being a parent: receiving unconditional love and having the awesome responsibility of helping mold and shape a little “person.”

What do you do for fun?
Spend time with family; read; play computer games

What's your favorite color? Why?
2 colors:  garnet/gold.  Is it not obvious?

What's your most embarrassing moment?
At the age of 5: having an older cousin pull down your pants because a cockroach ran up your leg.  (Note: said incident took place outside the church fellowship hall…in front of a large group of people…exiting a wedding reception.)

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Flying (a la Superman-style.)  It would be so much faster, cooler, and cheaper than driving or flying on a plane.

If you had to pick one verse that defines your ministry what would  it be?
Psalm 115:1 – “Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to Your name be the glory, because of Your love and faithfulness.”

Children's Director
Elaine Weaver

What is your role at Parkwood? If you could pick a body part that describes it, what would it be?  Educational assistant of Preschool and Children's Ministries; a helping hand.

What do you do for fun?
Watching Abigayle grow and learn new things, she gets excited when she does a good thing; I also enjoy watching how she blesses others with her smile.

What's your most embarrassing moment?
One that is still too embarrassing to talk about.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I would want to fly...I do not know why because I do not really like heights, but I have always wanted to fly.

If you had to pick one verse that defines your ministry what would  it be?
John 13:15 - "For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done for you."

What is your role at Parkwood? If you could pick a body part that describes it, what would it be?
My role at Parkwood:  Member of the church body, Secretary to the Ministers and to assist the congregation for whatever they need. If I could pick a body part that describes it , it would be hands.

What do you enjoy the most about being a parent, spouse, child, etc.?
I enjoy being a grandparent because I can spoil them rotten and then send them home.

What do you do for fun?
I enjoy reading, crafts, computer games, and entertaining at the lake house.

What's your favorite color? Why?
My favorite color is purple because it is the color of royalty and I am a child of the King.

What's your most embarrassing moment?
I can't remember my most embarrassing moment - there have been many.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
If I could have a superpower, it would be to heal the sick; spiritually, physically, emotionally and mentally because I hate to see suffering of any kind.

If you had to pick one verse that defines your ministry what would  it be?
John - His love is so great that it motivates me to strive to do my best in whatever I attempt.

Our Beliefs
In essential beliefs we have unity. These are things we believe are essential. These are things we need to be united in thought and purpose on. In the essentials we have unity. Ephesians 4:4-6 says, "There is one body and one Spirit- just as you were called to one hope when you were called-one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." In non-essenti al beliefs, we have liberty. There are some essentials, but there are also a lot of things in the Christian life, the Christian walk, that are not essentials. They're kind of open to however you interpret them, as you study, as you pray, as you ask God to show you. There are some things you're going to differ from other people on. We consider a lot of these to be non-essentials and in those there's liberty. In those we can have diversity. In all our beliefs, we show charity.

What we believe

1. About God: God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. Genesis 1:1,26,27, 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

2. About Jesus Christ: Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. Matthew 1:22, 23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14,15; 1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Romans 1:3,4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14,15; Titus 2:13

3. About the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16,17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galations 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

4. About the Bible: The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error. 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105,160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

5. About Human Beings: People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God's creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". This attitude separates people from God and causes many problems in life. Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1, 2

6. About Salvation: Salvation is God's free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1

7. About Eternal Security: Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot "lose" it. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security. John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10,14; 1 Peter 1:3-5

8. About Eternity: People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15; 1 Cor. 2:7-9
